Buying and Selling Tips

Why buy or sell your vehicle from a dealer?

Save money! When you trade in your current used vehicle you don't pay as much tax (GST and PST). Here is how it works. Let's say you are looking to buy a $10,000 snowmobile. If you are trading in your current snowmobile and are getting $7,000 for it you only pay GST on the purchase price of $3,000.

Another big reason you would choose to buy from a dealer is 'peace of mind'. You are not going to be left to fend for yourself if you have any major problems with the vehicle shortly after you purchase it. Unlike a private sale you will have someone to go back to if needed and most dealers offer a short warranty and/or other perks to make sure you can make the most of your vehicle. You also don?t need to do lien or accident search.

The buying or trade-in process is also less of a hassle. When you sell your vehicle privately you have to do all the "leg work", and ensure you collect on the payment. All you have to do to trade-in your vehicle at a dealer is bring it to the shop. Paying for your used vehicle can also be a hassle. Private sellers require cash or certified cheque. A dealer will often accept cash, credit cards and debit cards but they can also offer in house financing so you don?t have to pay for the vehicle in one lump sum payment.
